Lily / Orchid / Robert Mapplethorpe Sweater

MISBHV x Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation collaboration available on misbhv.com.

Robert Mapplethorpe received his first polaroid camera in 1970 from artist and filmmaker Sandy Daley. His art was to challenge and adhere to classic aesthetic standards, as Mapplethorpe himself says they were to look for the unexpected. The main subjects of his photographs were black and white portraits, flowers, and male and female nudes. His art is considered astonishing and is being preserved in major museums all across the globe. His legacy lives through Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation which was established in 1988 to promote photography, support museums that exhibit photographic art, and fund medical research in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
